Mission/Vision/Belief Statements-- -2017

Mission (per web page): The Missouri Valley Community School District will create an engaging

environment that fosters inquisitive learners who can effectively apply their skills in an ever

changing world.

Mission for ELP:

Missouri Valley Community Schools will create qualitatively differentiated instruction in core curricular

areas for students who exhibit high performance or potential to achieve in intellectual, creative or

artistic areas; or excel in specific academic fields.

Students will be considered for the program based on multiple assessment pieces, both

standardized and informal,  and services will be reevaluated on a regular basis by parents,

classroom teachers, administrators, and the extended learning program instructor.


It is the goal of the Missouri Valley ELP (extended learning program), along with all educators,

staff and administrators, to foster inquisitive learners, expand their knowledge and stress the

development of independent and self-directed learning; so to effectively apply their skills/strengths in

an ever-changing setting.

Vision: 

In keeping with school wide vision to create an engaging environment where all

learners will grow academically, intellectually and socially, the TAG/ELP program envisions a

learning environment that is flexible and responsive to the full spectrum of the needs of gifted

learners resulting in new learning everyday, guided by specially trained professionals.

Belief Statements:  

 Meeting the needs of identified students is the shared responsibility of classroom

teachers, special teachers, administrators, paraeducators and/or counselors.

 Gifted students benefit from time to learn from likeability peers

 Gifted and talented students require a variety of services and options to meet their

individual cognitive and affective needs

 Gifted and talented students are present in all populations, all cultural and religious

groups, across all economic groups and may also be identified with learning challenges

(twice exceptional)

Commitments to Action:  

 Gifted education instructors, along with classroom instructors and administrators will

create appropriately challenging educational opportunities for gifted learners

 Identified gifted learners will be provided time to work/discuss/create in groups with like-

minded/like-styled learners

 Professional Development will be provided, created and on-going for all staff around the

area of gifted education to ensure gifted learners receive ample opportunities at their
