Extended Learning Program for Mo. Valley 2014-2015
Welcome back! Our ELP groups hope everyone has gotten off to a great start with the 2014-2015 school year.
As the year progresses, please look for updates about events and happenings written by ELP students. Articles may be written in small groups or individually. We will post about the units of study or topics we are working on.
To begin the year, here are the major themes for 3rd-5th grade groups:
3rd Grade: will be extending on the SWH (Science Writing Heuristically) topic of "Plants and Animals Adapt to Change and Depend on One Another and Their Environments" Students will be reading and researching about various ecosystems and/or animal groups. Then they will create a power point slide show to share with their classmates. We will also be working on vocabulary and fluency with a few fun Reader's Theaters.
4th Grade: our group will be extending the Science curriculum with research related to the Solar System, Planets and other aspects of Space. Our culminating project will be a video created with the flip camera with original scripts written by the students....the setup will look like a classic "Siskel and Ebert Movie Review" session. I will do my best to post the video project for parents to view (sometimes my 21st century skills remind me I am a 20th century "baby"......
5th Grade: This group will be working on 4C's: community, character, culture and consequences. We will be researching cultures and diversity, looking at situations from multiple points of view and creating original works to share out with their classrooms and classmates.
Please continue to check the ELP blog and feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or suggestions. Thank you.
