Our Results to The Giving Tree

      Missouri Valley students have been collecting food for the Harrison county food pantry. In the past two  weeks we have have gathered more than our goal of five hundred (500). We have 636 items!  Whoever participated, thank you for your help.

Welcome to ELP

Welcome to the  ELP (Extended Learning Program) at the Mo. Valley Community Schools.  I am excited to be delving into the learning behind ELP and helping students to grow as learners, readers, problem solvers and citizens. ELP 2018-2019 Beginning BLOG

MVCSD ELP has begun and we continue to build on our STEM work and pre-computer skills/coding continues.  The above video clip demonstrates our first experience with Ozobots.  The ozobots "follow" the color-coded/computer coded path created by the students.  Our challenges were to apply the computer coding we have learned and create new paths for the ozobot to follow.  The sensors on the ozobot "read" the color-coded computer language.  Standards addressed:  CC.K-12.MP.1 Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. CC.K-12.MP.2 Reason abstractly and quantitatively. CC.K-12.MP.5 Use appropriate tools strategically. CC.K-12.MP.6 Attend to precision. 3rd ELP Begins Service Learning Project

The 3rd Grade ELP group has begun its first service learning project.  Students are creating informational posters letting the MV Elementary students know we are collecting pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House charities.  The pop tabs collected will be sent to a recycling station where, based on the overall weight, money will be donated to the local Ronald McDonald House.  We have currently collected 957,000 pop tabs and they have set a new goal of 1,000,000! The following standards are being addressed through this service learning project:  3.L.1 Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking. 3.W.4 With guidance and support from adults, produce writing in which the development and organization are appropriate to task and purpose.
