Our Results to The Giving Tree

      Missouri Valley students have been collecting food for the Harrison county food pantry. In the past two  weeks we have have gathered more than our goal of five hundred (500). We have 636 items!  Whoever participated, thank you for your help.

2nd Grade ELP---We are Engineers!

The 2nd grade ELP group began the year with the folktale "John Henry" and discussed how John had a problem......he could break the rocks faster than the machine BUT the demolished rocks couldn't be cleared away faster enough...SO, engineers design a process or product to solve a problem or meet a need..... Below are a few photos showing how we have brainstormed solutions, revised our plans using feedback from others, tested the ideas and begun the creation of a solution with the resources we have available. Hear ye, Hear ye......3rd-5th ELP Update

Medieval Times Report                 Third grade, Fourth grade, and Fifth grade are doing projects about Kings, Queens, Knights, and more! 3 rd grade has been reading “Door in the Wall”, while 4 th grade is reading “Castle in the Attic”, and Fifth grade is reading “King Arthur”. All three of these talented grades are learning medieval words, such as chivalry, portcullis, and grotesque. In the display case, you can see a castle with people, and a life sized “Long Sword”! There’s also 3 rd grade’s “Coat of arms”! Here are two facts about medieval times: Purple was the most expensive dye, and the Caste system (when you are born to something, you stay that thing, such as being royalty means you stay royalty)! We still have projects in progress, like a courtyard and a kitchen. We are also making a master chamber and a dungeon. There is a poster hanging in the display case. It's Time to Put on Our "Thinking Caps"

Missouri Valley's ELP students, 5th-7th, will be gearing up for the National "Thinking Cap Quiz Bowl".  The Quiz Bowl was developed by 2 Urbandale, IA educators who wanted to promote academic competition and not just athletic competition. The on-line competition will be Nov. 7th for 5th and 6th grade students.  It will be held on Nov. 13th for the 7th grade students.  There are 100 multiple choice questions in all areas of academics.  Including, Math, Science, Government, Literature, Sports and General Trivia. We will be working on a few practice tests leading up to the event.  Students are scored on accuracy and speed.  The students will be competing as 1 team and not individually.
